Cut the Slot and Bang Up the Rails

The slot is cut in the key bed for the solenoid rails

Another view of the slot and the Bass Solenoid Rail.

A jig is used to find the location of the rail bracket studs.

Solenoid Rail ready to hang.

The slot is cut in the Key bed and the Solenoid Rails are assembled.  The underneath side of the keys are routed for a strip of dense felt.  The solenoids are spaced to the middle of each key.  Finally the brackets are mounted onto the rails, the hanger studs are located to the key bed with the blue jigs, and the solenoid rails are hung in the slot.

Here you can see the completed solenoid rails, or the pianist's fingers.....

A very important step for silent selonids, felt underneath the keys.

Checking Out the Hole Alingment

The Solenoid Rails are mounted in the slot and the key bed is re-assembled onto the piano.  Next the rail cover is fit over the solenoids and pop riveted together.  Then the location of the pitman rods are marked onto the rail cover, the holes are drilled, and the rail cover is painted.

Install The Trap Work

Sustain Trapwork Custom Shaped to fit over Rail Cover

Shaping Trapwork with Pneumatic Cut Off Saw

Sustain Pitman is fit up throught the slot connecting to the underneath side of the damper tray.

A threaded rod is connected to the origional Sustain Pitman and then connected to the new trapwork.

Each piano is different and the trap work is custom fit over the rail cover and under the pedal lyre.  The sustain and sostinuto pitman rods are centered on the trap work and fit to the damper tray and sostinuto lever respectively.  The sustain pedal solenoid is located on the back post insuring the precise mechanical advantage for lifting the dampers.  Final assembly and regulation of the pedal lyre and trap work rounds out  this part of the installation.

Finally, the easiest part of the installation, wiring it up.  The power supply and Stereo Advent Speakers are mounted on dense felt.  The driver boards, CPU, and Control Box are installed.  The 88 solenoids are wired to the driver boards, the driver boards are connected to each other and the Power Supply, Pedal Solenoid, Speakers, and Control Box are also wire together.
